“Whoever approaches God and truly desires to be a partner of Christ must approach with a view to this goal, namely, to be changed and transformed from his former state and attitude and become a good and new person, harboring nothing of “the old man.” For it says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (2 Cor 5:17). For our Lord Jesus Christ came for this reason, to change and transform and renew human nature and to recreate this soul that had been overturned by passions through the transgression. He came to mingle human nature with His own Spirit of the Godhead. A new mind, new eyes, new ears, a new spiritual tongue and, in a word, new humans – this was what He came to effect in those who believe in Him. Or new wineskins, anointing them with His own light of knowledge so that He might pour in them new wine which is His Spirit. If you are weak it indicates that you aren’t in fellowship with the Holy Spirit who dwells in you. I am not saying your weakness is an indication that the Holy Spirit isn’t working in you. Nay, for the Holy Spirit is working, but the importance lies in your response. Do you work with Him? Do you use this power or not? If the seed of wheat is the power of life, and this power becomes apparent if the seed finds the right conditions for growth. If it finds the right conditions of water, earth, warmth and light, it will sprout, otherwise it’s innate life remains inoperative, not functioning. How many are those who have inoperative power? The power of the Spirit in them doesn’t function because they don’t use it because they’ve grieved the Spirit who is in them. “And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” ‭‭- I Corinthians‬ ‭2:4-5‬ . Saying that the gospel was preached without words of human wisdom does not belittle it, but that, on the contrary, is the greatness of the splendor of the gospel, that it is divine and from heaven. The proof through words of human wisdom, and the cleverness of eloquence, is weaker than the proof by works and signs; Yet, to take away any doubt that those signs are like the deceptive kinds of signs presented by the diviners, he did not say: “in the demonstration of the power”, but said “in the demonstration of the Spirit”, then, “of the power” (4), to confirm that the things done are all spiritual. Saying that the gospel was not proclaimed through words of human wisdom, does not therefore imply any kind of despite, but is rather a great adornment; as it is a proof that it is divine, and high from heaven; Hence he adds: “that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” (5).
