Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. … Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. . -Hebrews 12:7 and 10 . . You have to be prepared by faith and fear of God to confront any thing and every thing. Let the loss of the things close and dear to you, like the loss of health because of a serious illness, or deprivation of wife or children, not be reasons to confuse you, but rather to keep you. Such calamities should not weaken the faith of a Christian, but should be a chance to provide his virtues with renewable zeal during his struggle. We should disregard the present evils, and be connected by hope to the heavenly reward. Where there is no struggle, there will be no victory. Only when a battle flares up, will victory be granted, and the victorious will get his reward. The captain of a ship proves his skill and courage during a storm, so also the warrior during a battle. A tree with deep roots will not fall, even if struck by fierce wind, so also the apostle Paul, as the ship on which he was taken broke down, beside the chains and bodily sufferings, all that did not lead him to talk with a broken heart, but, because of all those calamities, he became in a better condition. The more serious they turned out to be, the more he proved to be worthy of real commendation .
