“Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God. For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.” -Philippians‬ ‭1:27-30‬ . “He says well “terrified”, as that is what our enemies intend to do, to terrify us. He says that there is nothing to terrify us, whatever are their plans; That is the portion of those who walk upright, Their enemy can do nothing more than to try to terrify them.
When they realize that, with all their planning, they cannot terrify you, they would count it as a proof of their perdition.
When the persecutors could not overcome those they persecute; the planners could not overcome those against whom they plan;
and those of authority could not overcome those under their authority; Is it not a proof enough that their perdition is close at hand?
that their power is naught, and that what they did are vain and weak? … The apostle says that all this is from God.” -St. John Chrysostom . . . #Coptic #CopticOrthodox #Gospel #TheWordOfGod

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. “Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”” -Matthew‬ ‭16:24-28‬ . You martyr, do not fear the sword of your persecutor, but rather fear your tongue lest you persecute your own self, and hence you destroy your spirit and not your body. Fear your spirit lest you die in hell fire. -St. Augustine . Do not fear, or let your heart get weakened, and do not be disturbed when your money is withdrawn, or your food, or drink, or pleasures, or clothes, or house or even your very body. But fear the adversary that pulls away your spirit from the faith, and from relying on God, and the love to God and the close ones. This happens when hatred, and enmity, and the link to all that is worldly, and pride and all other iniquity is sowed in your heart. -Father John of Krostodt . . . #Coptic #Orthodox #DailyReadings #CarryYourCross #FearTheAdversary #JesusSaidToHisDisciples

““And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.” -‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:10‬ ‭ . There is nothing worse than blasphemy! No sin can be compared with it. Nothing else enrages God so much, as for His name to be blasphemed. For this no one should either be negligent and be swayed himself, but neither should he be indifferent, if he hears his friend or his enemy blaspheming. This sin increases all the evils, disturbs and confuses our whole life and in the end prepares for us unending hell and unbearable punishment. The person who is impious and blasphemes God, who goes against His laws and never wants to abandon this absurd argument, resembles the drunkard and crazy person. He acts worse than those who are in a state of intoxication and have lost their reasoning, even if he himself doesn’t seem to feel it. Blasphemy and lewd speech, even if they are born in the soul, don’t remain however in it, but also defiles the tongue which spews them out, they also pollute the hearing which puts up with it. Like other poisons they poison both the soul and the body. – Saint John Chrysostom . . . #Coptic #CopticOrthodox #DailyReadings #Faithful #SonOfMan #HolySpirit
