Does “prayer without ceasing” mean that we continuously bow our knees and raise our hands? If this were true, we could not do it. However, there is an inner kind of continuous prayer, which is the desire of the heart to accomplish a good deed. If you are eager for the Sabbath, the eternal rest, then you will not cease praying. If you do not want to stop prayer, then be eager to pray. Continuous eagerness to prayer means continuous prayer – St Augustine . . Continuous prayer is a continuous inflamed heart, unceasing yearning for eternal life, and dwelling with God forever. This longing toward eternal life is kindled when one takes off the old man and puts on the fiery Holy Spirit, the holy life, which draws the mind, the heart, and all feelings toward divine matters. – Fr Tadros Malaty . . #dailyreadings #copticorthodox #orthodoxy #prayer #meditation

I suffer a lot from loneliness. It’s as if my parents have left me, even my closest friends don’t understand my feelings. O God, You fill my heart. You fill my life and grant me power and victory. Talk to me and let me talk to You because You are my heart’s desire. Through You, God, I am close to Your angels. “Some people read books in order to find God. Yet there is a great book, the very appearance of created things. Look above you, look below you! Note it, read it! God whom you wish to find, never wrote that book with ink. Instead, He set before your eyes the things that He made. Can you ask for a louder voice than that? Why, heaven and earth cry out to you, ‘God made me’ ” – St. Augustine #coptic #orthodox #dailyreadings #books #infinite #allknowing

One might say that the whole body receives increase as each member partakes of the distribution of gifts proportionally. In this way … the members, receiving the distribution in accordance with their own capacities, are thus increased. The Spirit, flowing abundantly from above, comes into contact with all the limbs and distributes according to the ability of each one to receive, thus “enabling bodily growth.” . ~ St. John Chrysostom #joinedandknit #bodilygrowth #onebody #dailyreadings #coptic #orthodox

Faith without works is dead, and works without faith are dead also. For if we have sound doctrine but fail in living, the doctrine is of no use to us. Those enemies wounded St Paul with stones: there is a wounding with words, even worse than stones. What then must we do? The same that he did: he did not hate those who cast stones at him, but after they had dragged him out, he entered again into their city, to be a benefactor to those who had done him such wrongs. If you also endure him who harshly insults you, and has done you wrongs, then you have too been stoned. Do not say, “I have done him no injury.” For what injury had Paul done, that he should be stoned? He was announcing a Kingdom, he was bringing men away from error, and “In the very city in which they received this reverence, in the same were they thus terribly ill treated” -St. John Chrysostom . . #dailyreadings #copticorthodox #orthodoxy #loveyourenemies

Who is He? He is the Word of Truth, the Word of non-corruption, who renews man, by bringing him back to the truth. He is the (goad) that provokes to salvation, He is the One who destroys perdition, and drives away death. He builds the temple of God in men, and makes them His dwelling place. The sick are in need of a Savior.  The lost need a guide. The blind are in need of someone to lead them to light. Let us be undaunted in all our dangers. There is nothing dreadful to him that fears God; but all that is dreadful is for others. For when a man is delivered from his passions, and regards all present things as a shadow, say, from whom shall he suffer anything dreadful? Whom shall he have to fear? Whom shall he need plead to? Let us flee to this Rock which cannot be shaken. … What is more wonderful to say, the very things which are thought to cause discomfort, became matter of all joy and gladness. … For it is impossible, impossible in words to express how great pleasure falls to their lot, who suffer for Christ’s sake: for they rejoice in their sufferings, rather than in their good things – St. John Chrysostom . . #dailyreadings #copticorthodox #orthodoxy #praisehim in #thestorms #blessedarethosewhomourn

Feeding the hungry is greater than raising the dead. Look at how much God gave you: take from it what you need, then what remains somebody else may need it. Present to Him the dignity that He Himself seeks from you by offering your money to the poor. – St. John Chrysostom . . #dailyreadings #copticorthodox #orthodoxy #coptic #mercy #love #service

When we face something we do not expect, we should not be disturbed or collapse, but should accept it from God, who knows exactly what He is doing. He is intentionally testing our hearts for our own benefit; And knows exactly when to take us out of the furnace of temptation; We should therefore, perpetually submit to Him, continually endure everything with pleasure and thanksgiving, whether when He grants us blessings, or puts us under chastisements, which are likewise, a kind of blessings. When the physician allows us to relax and have a nice time in beautiful gardens and joyful parks; and when he finds it proper to use on us the scalpel and knife; In either case he is still the physician! And when the father treats his son with compassion, and chooses at times to chasten and punish him; He is still the father knowing for sure that God is more compassionate than all physicians and fathers, we should never question his dealings, or ask him for an account on them; What he finds proper, let Him do it. Whether he releases us of the temptation, or chooses for us to get more of it; Because in either ways, His intention is to bring us back to well-being, and to grant us fellowship with Him; He is aware of our different needs, of what suits everyone of us, and of how, and in what way, we are to be saved. Let us then follow Him wherever He commands us; and let us not think much, about whether He chooses for us an easy way, or a difficult rough one – St John Chrysostom . . #dailyreadings #copticorthodox #orthodoxy #feastofstgeorge #endure #trials #godisgoodalways

Whoever possesses You, will have all his needs fulfilled! How horrible is my misery! My heart tends to escape from You! From the true wealth and the true joy, to go after the world, where there is nothing but sorrow and pain! St. Augustine . . #dailyreadings #copticorthodox #orthodoxy #holy50days
